For Vets & Welfare Organisations

Approved vet and welfare accounts provide a secure route to search ChipHERO records for a lawful animal-identification or reunification purpose. Public searches never reveal keeper contact details.

What professional access provides

  • Search ChipHERO by microchip number and see the information permitted for your role.
  • Follow a referral when a chip is held by another database.
  • Use current and historical keeper information where access is authorised and needed for reunification.
  • Record the reason for the search so the enquiry has an audit trail.

Apply for the right account

Vets and welfare organisations use separate applications so that ChipHERO can review the organisation, the applicant’s role and the level of access required. Use a work email address and provide complete professional details. Approval and available search information depend on the verified role.

Before carrying out a search

Scan the animal carefully, confirm the full chip number and record why the lookup is necessary. Use keeper information only for the lawful purpose for which it was disclosed. If the animal is not registered with ChipHERO, the search can direct you to the relevant database without exposing private data publicly.

Out-of-hours and escalation

For urgent lost-and-found enquiries, call ChipHERO 24 hours a day on 0330 043 5244. If a record appears incorrect, ownership is disputed, or access is insufficient for the case, contact support rather than using information for another purpose.

Guidance and related services
